I'm Henry Yip, a mathematical physics student from Hong Kong, based between Edinburgh and Zürich. My work so far has ranged from the three-body problem and two-dimensional turbulence to statistical physics and tropical cyclones.

Research

  • Summer 2026Hong Kong Observatory internship. Estimating the intensity and central pressure of tropical cyclones from machine-learning weather forecasts. First-author paper submitted.
  • Spring 2026Computational Statistical Physics final project, ETH Zürich. A Monte Carlo study of the 3D Heisenberg model; it received full marks.
  • 2026Semester project, Atmospheric Physics, ETH Zürich. How the potential intensity of tropical cyclones depends on the resolution of its inputs.
  • Summer 2025Summer research, University of Edinburgh. Synchronisation of small scales in two-dimensional Kolmogorov flow, supervised by Dr Jacob Page, with assistance from Dr Dmitriy Zhigunov.
  • Summer 2024Summer research, University of Edinburgh. The three-body problem and symplectic integrators, supervised by Prof. Jenni Smillie.
